Sometimes I get FOMO. I’m not somebody who gets overly excited, so when people are getting hyped up, I’m like “Oooh (in a kind of aliens from ToyStory voice), what are you so excited about?”Obviously I’d heard the hype so decided to try Prime. It was alright. But was it worth the hype? Absolutely not. For those who’ve managed to avoid the Prime drink madness, it’s essentially a flavoured hydration drink created by two YouTubers called Logan Paul and KSI. People are obsessed with it, and it previously sold for hundreds of pounds when it first came out (Look up ‘WakeyWines’ on TikTok if you want a giggle). If you have kids then you’ve probably been harassed to buy it for them. Every so often it feels like an organisation is saying they’re the Prime equivalent of the workplace. They have the best office, facilities and perks - tick tick tick. But then a year later we hear that the CEO was embezzling money from the company, the senior leadership team have backtracked on their hybrid working policy, and that the culture is pretty toxic with employees abandoning ship left right and centre. So whilst I’m naturally curious about these Prime examples, it can be style over substance. I’d far rather hear about the less flashy, less hyped up, “we favour the tortoise over the hare” companies who are interested in carefully sustaining the business. Slow and steady but sustained growth. Nurtured and sustained (or rather retained) employees. #SustainableBusiness #FOMO #Prime

I have been harassed by my kids to buy Prime Simone 🙋♀️. And yes, even they agreed it’s overly hyped. It’s basically a super sweet version of Gatorade, and yet according to my middle schooler, there was a small black market in her school (when supply was limited) with kids re-selling bottles of Prime for $20 and then refilling thr bottles with water just to keep working the brand. But it didn’t last. Now you can find it well stocked on the shelves at Walmart and many of those kids have moved on. Celebrity influence can be powerful, and brands can be big. But if they’re shallow, and the actual product doesn’t deliver, they will only get you so far.Exactly the point you’re making regarding celebrity CEOs and shallow promises made by companies trying to get attention and lure employees. If the experience doesn’t match the hype, it will be short-lived.

Prime - my 10 year olds school class are obsessed with it.When my son got a bottle (the black limited edition). I said it tastes like really strong Sainsbury's Orange, Lemon and Pineapple Cordial he was not impressed - he then went on to fail the blind taste test!!The sooner this trend ends the better!

I found this article about humor and memes in the workplace by Max Kraynov for Entrepreneur so refreshing. Just three years ago, when the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic had everyone on edge, the Rocket leaders recognized that our team members needed some levity. And so I was asked... Would you bring back Cup of Zup?Cup of Zup was a humor email I wrote for four years before I hopped over to focus on internal communications. When it ended, I was sure I would never do it again. Then again, I also never thought I'd see a pandemic so....I brought it back, and I'm glad I did.Three years later, I'm still sending Rocket's favorite twice-a-week email to our team members. There's even an external version for anyone who wants to subscribe. (Like you!)Cup of Zup creates connections through work-friendly content with humor, lighthearted news, conversation starters, and yes... plenty of memes. We even squeeze in internal updates, programs, and events that readers might enjoy. It's important that our team members know that it's okay to take a break and laugh with your friends at work. Several leaders have told me they use Cup of Zup to spark conversations in huddles and build personal connections with their team. Is it the most important email you'll get in your work inbox? Definitely not, but I bet it's your favorite. #email #connections #humor #memes #workhumor #burnout #funny https://lnkd.in/gtQRkmFc

Gen-Z at workplace🧑💼💼I can't help but notice how the workplace landscape has evolvedWith many of my fellow B-school buddies and early work cronies now donning mid to senior management hats, we find ourselves navigating the wild and wonderful world of Gen Z in our teams🧑💼💼Let's talk about the hilarious missteps we often make in managing and nurturing these digital natives. From imposing our antiquated value systems on their Snapchat-filled lives to jumping to conclusions faster than you can say "TikTok trend," we're guilty as charged!😅But here's the plot twist: the more I delve into the Gen Z psyche, the more I realize their struggles are as real as the WiFi signal on a Monday morning. From feeling perpetually inadequate despite their parents' success to dodging FOMO bullets fired by social media, their battle scars run deep💻🌟And let's not forget their front-row seat to the dumpster fire that was Covid-19, climate chaos, and the general struggle of growing up in a world where "normal" is a distant memory😷🌪️But fear not, fellow managers! There's a silver lining to this Snapchat story. Here's my two cents:1. Embrace your inner parent – they may need a little TLC along with their KPIs. After all, they're juggling more than just spreadsheets; they're battling inner demons and existential crises before breakfast🍳🧠2. Show them the love – forget corner offices and fat paychecks, these kids crave recognition and fairness like a plant craves sunlight. And when they feel valued, they'll move mountains faster than you can say "crypto"💰💖3. Listen up – their fresh perspectives and Insta-worthy insights could be the secret sauce your business needs. Give them a platform to speak, and you might just be surprised by the wisdom they bring to the table🎤🌟So, dear managers of the world, let's swap judgment for curiosity and embrace the chaotic, wonderfully wacky world of Gen Z with open arms. Who knows, we might just learn a thing or two about emojis and existentialism along the way!🌈🤓 #GenZatWork #ManagementMishaps #EmbraceTheChaos #WorkplaceWisdom

Have you ever wondered why good people bail on what seems like great jobs? It’s not the gig they’re ditching; it’s the stuff that festers underneath. Bad bosses, nightmare coworkers, laughable pay, and a culture that feels like a wet blanket on a cold day. And let’s not forget the big one: zero room to grow or get better. When your top guns start jetting, it’s not a fluke; it’s a flare signal that something’s off-kilter inside your organization. It's not about the job itself, but the vibe, the people, the support – or the glaring lack of it.But here’s the kicker: this moment, right here, is your shot to flip the script. What if you could turn your place into somewhere people aren’t just showing up to, but are psyched to be part of? Imagine fostering a spot where growth isn’t just a buzzword but the real deal, where everyone’s in it together, pushing forward, getting better. This is your call to arms. It’s time to dive deep, shake up the status quo, and build a culture where everyone's amped to clock in not because they have to, but because they genuinely want to. We’re talking about crafting a place where people don’t just stick around but thrive, contribute, and genuinely enjoy the ride. So, are you ready to roll up your sleeves, make some waves, and lead the charge? Let’s make your organization the one that everyone’s dying to be part of. Let’s get this show on the road and create a legacy that’s not just about keeping seats warm but about lighting fires and fueling passions. Ever felt like you've been sold a lemon? You know, like when you buy a car that's supposed to be 'as good as new', only to find out it has more issues than a soap opera character? That, my friends, is a classic case of cognitive dissonance - when reality doesn't match up with our expectations. Now, imagine feeling that way about your job. You were promised a company culture that values innovation and collaboration, but all you see around you is bureaucracy and office politics. It's like being promised a role in a Spielberg film, only to find out you're stuck in a never-ending episode of 'Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'.Cognitive dissonance isn't just bad for your mental health, it's bad for business. It leads to disengaged employees, high turnover rates, and a toxic work environment. It's like trying to drive a car with the handbrake on - you're not going to get very far.So, how do we eliminate this dissonance? Well, it starts with thinking about culture and values in terms of actions and behaviors, not just what sounds good on a company brochure. It's about walking the talk, not just talking the talk. So, dear founders and leaders, if you want to create a culture that truly reflects your values, start by looking at your actions. Are you promoting collaboration by encouraging open communication and team work? Are you fostering innovation by rewarding risk-taking and learning from failures? Are you living your values, or are you just paying them lip service?Remember, a company's culture is defined by what it does, not what it says. So, let's start doing. After all, actions speak louder than words.#culture #founders #values

Let's walk the talk, not just talk the talk.A message for leaders and founders - 1. Are you promoting collaboration through open communication and teamwork?2. In seeking “juicy” workplaces where my clients would excel, I realize that one size—or juiciness—doesn’t fit all. #juicywork #leadershipdevelopment Some companies are known for their creativity and innovation, like Apple and Facebook. Others, like Google and Spotify, describe their workplaces as technology playgrounds. And others simply emphasize having fun, like Zappos. I'm about to steal from Netflix and I'm going to share it with you. No, it's not a Robin Hood moment. And don't worry -- it's free. It's legal. We're good. I swear. What I'm actually taking is a bit of their philosophy on culture. See, I like thinking of our office as a "family" but that's a tough word to use at work. After all, as one of our Buying Local podcast guests put it, 'You don't hire and fire family.' It's a nice concept but it's flawed. Netflix, however, frames it differently. They have a 'Dream Team.' Here's a snippet directly from their website: "A dream team is one in whichallof your colleagues are extraordinary at what they do and highly effective working together...We model ourselves on being a professional sports team, not a family. A family is about unconditional love. A dream team is about pushing yourself to be the best possible teammate, caring intensely about your team, and knowing that you may not be on the team forever. Dream teams are about performance, not seniority or tenure. It is up to the manager to ensure thateveryplayer is amazing at their position, plays effectively with others and is given new opportunities to develop... Unlike a sports team, as Netflix grows, the number of players also grows. We work to foster players from the development leagues so they can become the stars of tomorrow." [source: jobs.netflix.com/culture]And there it is. Reading this was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me -- it summarized the thoughts I had but phrased in a way that was intuitive and accessible. All at once, I'm a coach, a teammate, and a cheerleader. Kudos to a huge company and their HR department, and also their openness and willingness to share this positivity. These types of ideas need to be spread. Employees are not barcodes -- we are all fully-formed individuals deserving of respect. A team-first culture prioritizes the best in us, and reminds us that we are greater as a whole. I'm curious -- what do you think? Is this how your company is run? Or should be run? Is there an even better way to frame your company's culture?

Many of us have heard the term “Hustle Culture”, but what does it actually mean? 🤔Hustle culture is a mentality that embodies increased productivity, ambition and success, typically shared with little to no regard for one’s mental and physical well-being.While we can agree that this is a red flag, Karla Huerta, CEO, and Lenovo Innovator has an interesting take to share.“Hustle Culture can be intimidating, but I’ve managed to find a system that works for me, which embraces the values of hustling in moderation.” - Karla HuertaRemember to manage your time and avoid burning out.
