Ayup.

Be unique.

The "unique" is very narrow in this case: the world is awash with 70-series LCs.

I have no idea if he will get his asking price (I wouldn't pay it) but it is a very nice looking Jeep. Unfortunately the 6 cylinders of that year are carburetor and made less HP than the fuel injected 4 cylinder, the automatic transmission doesn't help anything either. Seems like it would do better on BAT than Craigslist?

1988 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Edition STOCK OEM 17,000 original miles !! - $29,840

Well, living with 4 vehicles and a 1-car garage is a bit difficult. Yeah, I know .... what a 1st world problem to have !

Anyway, I'm considering selling my 1988 Jeep Wrangler Sahara edition which only has 17,000 original miles and is in Stock OEM condition ...... other than new Goodyear Wrangler tires, new engine hoses & belts and a new convertible Bestop 79123-37 Spice Sailcloth Replace-A-Top with tinted windows top which uses the original factory OEM hardware, a Bestop 52509-15 Strapless Black Denim Bikini Top, and a Bestop 80028-37 Spice Windjammer Wind Break cab curtain.

This is the FIRST Sahara package that was ever introduced on a Jeep and has a special paint color and interior. It is one of the most unique Jeeps ever released since it has a strong military appearance.

It was used sparingly in the first couple years by the original purchaser and then placed in storage for over 25 years. In the few years I've owned it it has been rarely driven and has been pretty much a garage king much to the dismay of the wife.

And, since it had matching seat covers installed when purchased in 1988 and always used ..... the interior looks new. Matching seat cover can be seen in one of the photos.

The engine compartment looks like it is still sitting on the dealer floor and the paint & cosmetic condition is excellent.

It looks and drives like a new jeep ..... well, a new "1988" Jeep that is !

It also has the rare automatic transmission, 4.2 liter engine, Rear TRAC-LOCK Differential, AM/FM Cassette stereo, draw bar, HD Engine cooling system, power steering, extra capacity fuel Tank, Tilt Steering Wheel, and the Cold Climate Group which includes heavy duty alternator and engine block heater.

All the optional upgrades were original Jeep upgrades included when purchased so it's pretty much as "factory delivered" as you can find.

Also included is all the original paperwork including invoice, manuals, and warranty stuff .... and a 1988 Washington Centennial License Plate in case you want to register it as a collector vehicle. Right now I'm using US Military Veteran license plates, not the 1988 plate.

ALL maintenance paperwork and records are included .... of which there isn't a lot since it was in storage for so many years and not driven.

Most importantly is an original custom Jeep Wrangler Ski Rack which fits on the spare tire if you want to take it up to the mountain on a ski trip, not sure how great it is for holding skis but it looks cool. The rear tire is the original P225/75R15 OWL Wrangler Tire in unused condition and still has those little rubber hairs. Personally, I wouldn't actually use it as a spare though since it is also 33 years old and was purchased in June 1988 !

Oh, there are a couple of after market items ..... there is a metal "security box" behind the rear seat that you can store items in if the convertible top is down, then lock the back tail gate and the items are secure. And, there is a top post battery disconnect switch as well as a installed CTEK battery charger/maintainer wires (a like new $100+ CTEK 56-959 MUS 4.3 TEST&CHARGE 12 Volt Fully Automatic Charger/Tester/Maintainer is included).

This is one of those vehicles that ALWAYS draws attention and positive comments and would be great to take to vintage & collectible car shows, off-roading on 4 wheel mountain roads, Jeep Events, or just lunch and hitting the beach at Alki ..... or just the occasional run to Home Depot (which is pretty much what I used it for).

It has been difficult to establish a fair price since you just don't see anything like this Jeep in this perfect of stock condition for sale these days. And, I have a bit of an emotional attachment to it since it is the exact same model I bought new when I was 35 and drove for well over a decade. Jeeps of this vintage like this are just not around anymore and most have either been modified for off-roading or have hundreds of thousands of miles or they are pretty beat up.

So, for pricing I just took the original invoice price and doubled it, hence the odd amount ending with $840.
Which is probably pretty close to what inflation would have done ! But, I will consider offers .... especially those over the asking price.

:)

But, don't bother with ridiculous lowball offers. I probably won't even respond to those.

Anyway, I'm just testing the waters about selling it and its not urgent that it sells (other than so my wife can get "her" car in the garage occasionally) ...... so, if you're interested just let me know and you can take a look at it or I can send more photos.

Added on August 5th:

Oh, forgot to mention that the original Khaki Sahara door side panels are included. And, they are in EXCELLENT condition. The fabric and rubber is pretty much mint, and the plastic is clear (very rare to find these 33 year old items in this excellent of condition). Photos now included.

Where the story came from.

The story "The Last Run" was published in the collection "Who Needs Enemies" by Alan Dean Foster. There was a somewhat-related movie in 1987.

I'm going to order and re-read that book.

The book came in the mail, and i re-read the short story at lunch. I don't want to spoil the ending of the race for anybody who might read it. I really enjoyed rereading it; the author's descriptions were quite familiar.

The book is Alan Dean Foster's "... Who needs enemies?".

This is not your regular 944 that has been neglected or ignored over the years. It's always been garage stored and never winter driven. It was bought from Marks Porsche in Ottawa in 1984 and I have all the maintenance receipts since 84. Over 400 pages of receipts will be all provided to the new owner. Previous owner even had a gas log which I have been continuing since 2015 as well. Vehicle was in storage for about 20years hence the low mileage, and yes, it's documented mileage and it is only 99000kms

37 years ago, minus 20 years storage, so 400 receipts over 204 months.
That is 2 receipts a month.
I favor a conscientious owner.

We'll have to read the receipts to know.

When I owned a Porsche repair garage in Florida (the 70's) I had a eccentric customer with 2 current models. He always left one with me, with the instructions "Drive it and make sure it doesn't need anything".
He happily paid for storage, the inspection fee, detailing and for the occasional repair.
He also paid for the gas I used, and he never had to visit a gas station.
I drove them more miles than he did. I really liked that deal.
He got 2 invoices a month, minimum, per car.

Rudy was indeed a cool dude, in fact the best member in the Rennlist 993 forum under the username "Opo" imo. He was always congenial and never objectionable in any way, a true gentleman. Always happily gave advice based on his wisdom of years of experience, he was a heckuva source of information that was always spot on.

Some stories where he'd be selling some part, wheels etc. and he'd ship the item before payment was even received. I sold him some 3 spoke 996 wheels (a popular mod for 993 owners) along with various other items over the years and he'd never dispute price and was a joy to deal with, every time.

Some would argue he got a steal. Those that don't will likely feel differently in the (near) future, of course.
It appears that the Porsche purist who wrote off this Era because of the introduction of a radiator and their disgust of Porsche dropping the trademark headlights, are now coming around 25 years later.

I liken it to falling in love with the girl with a mole on her face and that love-connection suddenly transforms the mole into a beauty mark. :)

This is just such a strange ad. At first you're thinking "Wow! Only 18K miles!" Then you start reading the ad text and looking at the pictures. Who is so paranoid to not only block the licence plate, but blur out the neighbourhood?

"It's an old car so it leaks a quarter sized amount of transmission fluid overnight but this is an easy fix and not a major problem" - Then why don't you fix it??

"18k on the odometer" - Rolled over how many times?

"Gas guage, temperature, and radio aren't working, can be fixed easily" - Then fix it!

We always call the paper bills “monopoly money” since they come in different colors. We stopped at a roadside produce stand the other day that didn’t take credit cards. We had to break out the stash of Monopoly money that we have just for such emergencies. Turns out, we paid the bill for something like $40 with all change. Lots of toonies and some loonies.

https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/seattle-1989-bmw-325i-touring-with-m3/7372383401.html

https://images.craigslist.org/00A0A_4Oq3kYdf5mPz_0k70e9_600x450.jpg

This 1989 BMW 325i is a modified German-market Touring which was imported to Spain in 1996 and came to the US in March 2018. Finished in Diamantschwarz Metallic, the car has been restyled with E30 M3 wheel flares, rockers, and bumper covers and also features a custom 2-tone interior, Alpina-style wheels, and lowered suspension. Power comes from a 2.5L M20 inline-six paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a recent service included a fluid change and tune-up. Now showing an indicated 223k kilometers (~138k miles).

The car resided in Spain between 1996 and 2018, and the M3 styling conversion was performed by a Spanish aftermarket firm sometime prior to 2017. The body panels reportedly include fiberglass M3 front fenders and rear wheel flares. A few scratches and blemishes are reportedly present in the paint.

Lighting includes European-market “smiley” ellipsoid headlamps, and the kidney grilles have been blacked out to match the Shadowline window trim. The car is lowered on aftermarket springs over Alpina-style 17” wheels from BK Racing. A manual sliding sunroof came fitted from the factory but is currently stuck in the closed position, and the seller is including a spare set of rails.

The interior has been reupholstered in a custom baseball glove orange and black leatherette scheme including on the front sport seats, M-Tech 1 steering wheel, rear bench, and door panels. A factory onboard computer and air conditioning system are equipped.

An aftermarket shift knob has been added along with a modern head unit. Noted issues include slop in the gearshift and an inoperable windshield washer. Approximately 223k kilometers (~138k miles) are shown on the odometer.

I had planned to swap in a full M3 drivetrain to match the look of the car, but just don't have the time. The new owner can drive and enjoy the care just as it is now, or continue to modify it to meet their own taste.

It's a tribute. A tribute. Not the real movie van. And they think it'll sell for $18K-$22K. I'm thinking if it does, whoever had this idea was brilliant. Or unhinged. Yes, I'm selling my Econoline at RM Sotheby's. It's one of one.

My Jeep has a "vent" setting that just dumps outside air into the cabin without operating the fan, it bypasses the heater core and fan. At 40mph the amount of air coming into the cabin is more than the fan can provide on high. Even with the top off the vent setting does a great job of dissipating the heat that comes through the firewall/floor. I don't know if it is just my Miata or every NA but even on cold the air coming through the vents is slightly warmer than ambient.

I think every car should have a vent setting in them. From what I understand most cars used to have this setting but it disappeared at some point.

"This Mayan Magnum is a one-off custom coupe built in the mid-1960s by science-fiction writer and engineer, Dean Ing, who died in July 2020 and whose family still owns the vehicle. Finished in white over a tan interior, the car is powered by a Chevrolet Corvair–sourced 2.4L flat-six paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes Porsche- and Volkswagen-based brakes and suspension, front-hinged clamshell bodywork, gullwing doors, a double-bubble roofline, 15″ wide-five aluminum wheels, and latch-and-link lap belts. The brakes and tune-up components were serviced in preparation for the sale. The homebuilt Mayan Magnum is offered on dealer consignment for Ing’s family with a copy of the May 1968 issue of Road & Track—which features an article about the car written by Dean Ing—as well as a clean Oregon title listing the car as a 1965 Assembled Vehicle."

No, the vent setting allows a lot more air into the car than the fan does on high. You also get the benefit of not having to listen to the fan blow the entire time. Think of it like rolling down a window in the firewall but not getting any of the heat/fumes from the engine bay.

This is a diagram of the system, when you switch it to vent the cowl gate L in the top left of the diagram opens and dumps cool air onto your knees and the large vent in the lower right opens and dumps cool air onto the passenger's ankle. On any other setting the cowl gate L does not open and you only get about half of the airflow through the system.

Other than some exterior parts -- other bits and pieces should be less of a challenge.
Even though over 10K Jensen Healeys were built,
as typical low volume manufacturers "parts bin" engineering was widely employed.

The father of one of my high school buddies had a Jensen-Healy Roadster of that model, and it was always broken down. Electrical problems, timing belts that broke at under the recommended change mileage of 10K taking out the valves/pistons, etc., etc., etc.

This seems like a good deal to me.
I just do not have the space to do the work to put it back together.

1960 Sunbeam Alpine (https://barnfinds.com/classifieds/1960-sunbeam-alpine/)
This sunbeam was restored by a long-term enthusiast owner about 15 years ago and then driven to many shows where it won awards. The owner was a pilot and frequently flew overseas where he collected most of the parts when he redid it. Unfortunately, the engine blew a head gasket and cracked the head about 5 years ago and the car has subsequently set in his garage. I bought the car with intentions of fixing it as it is so nice otherwise. I found a running upgraded later Alpine engine being pulled from a driver that was being converted to a Tiger replica with a V8 swap. That good used running motor comes with the car along with a factory hardtop.

Price: $7500
Location: Oklahoma city
Mileage: 54,074
Title Status: Clean
VIN: B9001053
